For me, bridal hair and makeup is a celebration of love, beauty, life and artistry. As a pro makeup artist, I love this fresh, new approach to makeup that my brides of South Asian decent are now taking! I have the pleasure with working with so many lovely brides from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bhutan.
Brides that are married to traditions, yet, have a very modernistic approach know how they want to look. I am not sure if it’s a trend, but more and more I am designing bridal makeup looks for modern women that are embracing their golden, dusky skin tones and deep under-eye natural coloring. Gone are the days where brides are insisting that I make theirs faces look more pink and white; not a good look, trust me. Modern South Asian brides are now redefining their own boundaries as well as traditions when it comes to their beauty. The requested earthier palettes are invoking sophisticated seduction with shades of golden blush pink, champagne, shimmery beige, crystal-like sand and rich, chocolate browns.
Together we are designing their pre-bridal hair and skin care regimes to make the very most of the wedding hair and makeup. These images are an ode to the exquisite, rich tones of India.
Tarun Tahiliani, the designer of the exotically beautiful bridal couture seen here, believes that the tradition of Indians brides who layered, draped, and wrapped their fabric, prints, colors and jewels in an unabashed medley, were indeed celebrating life and craft. Surely we should retain that essence, that flavor in contemporary fashion-inspired bridal hair and makeup. This fashionable approach honors the identity of the South Asian bride, whose beauty is derived from an ancient goddess civilization. It’s all about celebrating the splendor of a rich tradition that honors the opulence of the past.
