Bridal Skin Breakout Prevention Basics

Flawless makeup starts with healthy skin. As a professional makeup artist and skin care expert, one of the questions I’m asked most often is, “How do I care for my skin to prevent skin breakouts before my wedding?

Bridal Skin Breakout Prevention Basics

Bridal Skin Breakout Prevention Basics

There are many types of easy treatments that can help in maintaining a clear complexion for the big day. Unfortunately many brides use over-the-counter acne products that are formulated to dry up oil and excessive breakouts for teenagers, but for an adult who may only be getting one or two breakouts at a time, these products will leave their entire face skin dried out and irritated (horrible for your makeup application!). Many of these products contain harsh chemicals that may exasperate your skin problems!  Natural products contain substances with antibacterial properties that can help you heal your skin in healing. Today’s blog will highlight some of these methods.
.

Tip #1: Resist temptation! Avoid picking at your pimples to prevent infection and scarring. The uneven discolorations are often the result of picking at acne.
.

Tip #2: Use a gentle product with salicylic acid underneath moisturizer a few nights per week. The benefit of using salicylic acid is that it gets into the pore lining and helps to destroy acne-causing bacteria to prevent breakouts, yet it’s also effective for fading down discoloration (brown spots) from hormones, sun and age and well as exfoliating the skin to keep it looking smooth.
.

Tip #3: Dab on lemon juice. This treatment works for several great reasons; lemon juice is a natural astringent, so it will work to close up your pores. Its high acidity will kill off lots of the bacteria clogging your pores, and it has natural lightening powers which will reduce the redness of your zits. Put lemon juice directly on your pimple and leave it be till your next regular face wash.
.

Tip #4: Zinc helps zits because it reduces the formation of toxins under your skin. Cystic zits sufferers  should take zinc supplements each day.
.

Tip #5: Remember that if all else fails and you end up with a blemish or two, Photoshop is an amazing invention and can clear up any issues in a click.
.

Tip #6: Tea tree oil has been used by dermatologists for years to reduce skin irritation and acne. Get some pure tea tree oil and coat your acne with it. Do this after washing your face twice daily for the best results.
.

Tip #7: Put on some witch hazel. Witch hazel is a natural astringent typically used for cleaning up cuts. Put on pimples though, it will tighten the pores and kill the bacteria clogging them. Apply it heavily to your acne-prone areas or sweep it over your whole face with a cotton ball.
.

Tip #8: Make a honey mask. A natural antibacterial agent, honey works to clear clogged pores and lift off excess oil and dead skin. Coat your whole face in honey and leave it for as long as you can before rinsing off. Additionally, dab honey directly on your pimples and cover with a bandage while you sleep overnight. By morning, your zit should have significantly reduced in size and redness.
.

Tip #9: Green tea is an astringent that’s packed with lots of antioxidants, which help reduce signs of aging by fighting free radicals. Steep a tea bag in some hot water, remove the tea bag along with all the liquid, and place onto affected area briefly.
.

Tip #10: Tomato has acid that will break down the pimple and reduce it. The acid closes your pores and fights bacteria. Apply 1 half of the whole to your face on one side, and the other half to the other side of your face.

BRIDES… SLEEP YOUR WAY TO BETTER SKIN

Fact: Brides-to-be do not get enough sleep! And when brides skimp on sleep, it shows on their face. Tired skin sags, bags, and loses its luster. Lack of sleep causes blood vessels to dilate, causing the look of dark circles.

Becoming a Sleeping Beauty

Becoming a Sleeping Beauty

Imagine that you could wake up with prettier skin. Well, you’re not dreaming! While you’re asleep, a special skin growth hormone is released to boost collagen and keratin production (the proteins that make up your skin), and encourage cell turnover. Lose sleep and your asking for dull dry skin and deep, dark eyes on your wedding day. Try to squeeze in some extra shut-eye and you can help fight skin problems.

It’s not called “BEAUTY SLEEP” for nothing.

Happy 4th of July Brides! Top Tips For Freedom From Makeup Meltdowns

Happy 4th of July to My Dearest Brides! The heat can wreak havoc on your bridal makeup. So how can you stop from having a meltdown during your big day?

Red, white and blue makeup is fun to rock on the 4th of July!

Red, white and blue makeup is fun to rock on the 4th of July!

Top Tips for Freedom from Makeup Meltdowns

Keep in mind that heavy, oil-based cosmetics do not wear well in hot weather. Light, shear and waterproof makeup will stay in place longer.

So, always begin with a good skincare regimen. Giving yourself a mask once a week will promote healthy regenerating skin cells, smooth surface skin and a glow because you got rid of all the dead cells.

During the summer, your skin produces more moisture naturally. Heavy creams and thick lotions can make you feel like your skin is suffocating. An essential product for the blazing summer heat (especially recommended for those with oily skin) is an oil free mattifying moisturizer.

Always carry a spritzer to hydrate your skin during those summer months this helps your skin stay hydrated, look dewy and yes even set the makeup you have on. Misting your face with rose water also helps to set your makeup and keep it in place.

Wearing a good primer helps to create barrier between your skin and your makeup, thereby helping your makeup to stay put.

Translucent Powder helps control shine and help sets makeup making it a definite summer staple.

Consider using oil-blotting sheets as they help absorb excess moisture without smudging your makeup.

And finally, waterproof makeup, specifically eyeliner and mascara, helps prevent smudging.

Get The Look

Don’t be afraid to kick off the Fourth of July with a beauty look as bold as the fireworks in tonight’s sky. Apply a bold scarlet color on the lips, this color lipstick was designed for the Fourth of July!  The hot beauty trend this summer is to skip the black eyeliner. It’s just too harsh. Instead, try a deeper-hued shade of blue. Navy or indigo works great.

Keep in mind that blue eyeliner can make blue eyes pop! A navy blue works really well as a chic and modern alternative smokey eye.  The best part is that these hot hues are totally wearable, whether you’re a blonde, redhead, or brunette.

Embrace your beautiful bridal face and don't you dare cover those freckles!

Embrace your beautiful bridal face and don’t you dare cover those freckles!

If you’d like natural looking coverage which allows your freckles to show, without looking covered up, it’s best to use a sheer foundation or tinted moisturizer. This will help even out your skin tone, but will also let your freckles show, beautifully. It’s very important when doing makeup on freckled skin that the foundation be a certain “middle ground” shade. Continue Reading…

Applying Bridal Makeup On Winter-Exposed Skin

What’s a bride to do? It’s winter, and with the cold and wind and snow comes ashy, pale, dry, scaly winter skin. If you moisturize too much, you risk acne and product build-up. If you don’t moisturize enough, you have dry, itchy skin by the end of the day.

No worries, try these tips:
