The perfect nude lip shade should flatter your skin tone and light up your face, not drain it of life. Not all nudes are for every lip. Keep in mind that different skin tones require lip color palettes specifically designed for them.
Bare, naked, and au natural.
The perfect nude lipstick can make your face look fresh and youthful, but a lot of brides get it wrong and pick something too light, too opaque, or too beige. For most brides, it can be a daunting task finding the right nude lip stick. The best wear a nude shade is to match your skin’s undertone: pink undertones can use pinky undertones, neutral undertones can use peachy undertones, and yellow undertones are flattered by peach, copper and gold nudes. Here are my tips for choosing the best bridal nude lipstick for your skin tone:
TIPS for the perfect nude lip:
How to find the perfect shade, with a little help from the Art of Beauty by Aradia.
To smoothen your pucker, start by exfoliating your lips and then layering on a moisturizing balm. Apply a clear makeup primer around the perimeter of your mouth before you put on your lipstick to keep it from feathering.Taking an extra minute to prep your lips can be the difference between a nude lip that looks pretty and one that looks pasty.
I am a huge advocate of lip liner. It’s my wedding kiss-proof secret weapon!
Layering liner underneath lipstick is a tried-and-true trick for prolonging lip color. For a polished finish choose a lip-liner that is as close as possible to your lipstick. The trick is to gently use you pencil to sketch along the Cupid’s bow first and outline the rest your mouth (even more gently) by using the side rather than the tip of a pencil. The end result will look natural without any harsh lines. Try to match your lip liner to your kissing lipstick nude shade to perfect your lip shape and make your lipstick stay in place from the ceremony ‘til the reception.
Apply lip color with a lip brush because it allows you to blend your lipstick with greater precision, getting right into the inner corners of your mouth, for that perfect pout. Apply your lipcolor by starting in the center of your upper lip. Work from the center to the outer edges of your lip, following the contours of your mouth. Then glide brush across the entire bottom lip.
Matte lipstick leaves a lasting, liquid finish.
Reality check: Regardless of picking the best nude lipstick for your skin-tone, almost all colors and shades in this category tend not to last very long. Fortunately, their subtle nature makes it difficult for someone to notice when they fade. However, to get long-lasting color with a velvety matte finish, layer a liquid lipstick over a base of lip pencil in the same shade for longer staying power. These liquefied and concentrated versions of a traditional lipstick offer pigments that are intense and saturated.
The right pinkish nude can immediately enhance your bridal beauty.
If you have a fair skin tone: Try a sheer, light taupe, a shimmery beige or a nude with a hint of pink in it. Just make sure to steer clear of orangey nudes, which can make paler complexions appear sallow. Shimmering and incandescent pigments will create the illusion of lit-from-within lips that appear wider and fuller without being too intense.
Subtle and subdued.
If you have a medium skin tone: Try a golden-beige shade with orange undertones to enhance your olive complexion. When choosing your perfect bridal lipstick just remember if it looks nude in the tube, then it’s probably too light and it will look like concealer on your lips. Look for a pinkish-brown lip liner to neutralize your natural lip color and brighten your skin tone. Filled in completely to creates the perfect base for your bridal pout.
The right nude can transform a lip look from simply pretty to jaw-droppingly stunning.
If you have a darker skin tone: Avoid shades that are lighter than your skin color, as they will make your lips look ashy. Try out dark beiges to soft chocolate shades, If your lips are naturally highly pigmented try a caramel brown to counteract your own lip color so you can make them look more nude. If your top lip is darker than the bottom one, you’ll want to even out the color by filling in your entire mouth with a soft brown lip pencil and blending a dusty rose-brown lipstick on top.
It’s not always easy to achieve the right nude look with just one lip color, sometimes you’ll have to layer colors using a lip-liner or another lipstick shade to obtain the perfect nude.
To keep lipstick off your teeth just stick your finger in your mouth, wrap your lips around it, and pull it out. Any lipstick that would have gotten on your teeth will be left on your finger.
For touch-ups you’ll want to blot and re-apply your lipstick. Use a tissue to blot away the old layer to absorb excess oils and emollients. Take a powder brush and dip into translucent loose powder and stipple the brush over the tissue against the lips. The thin tissue will allow enough powder to reach the lips. This will help set the color for longer wear.
Avoid applying too much lip gloss. Despite making lips look lush, glosses contain low pigment and tend to dilute when layered over your lipstick.
What are my favorite nudes for creating stellar bridal looks?
For fair skin I love Nude Ballet #601 from: Extraordinaire by Colour Riche – Lipstick By L’Oreal Paris
For medium skin I love Delicate Lace from : L’Absolu Rouge – Lipstick by Lancome
For dark skin I love Half ’n Half from MAC: Lipstick | MAC Cosmetics – Official Site
About The “Nude” Art of Bridal Beauty By ARADIA
When it comes to the nude look, using lighting techniques, deep pigments and high quality products is the trick.
Not only does a nude lip compliment a dramatic eye, it can also enhance your dewy-fresh all-nude make-up for the big day—the natural hue is as versatile as its colorful counterparts. Most brides I meet really want to look like themselves, so consequently the nude look is highly requested. Now, that doesn’t mean that this popular bridal look doesn’t require make up. Actually it takes expertly makeup—maybe even a little contouring and a few false lashes—to look beautifully bare-faced.
Due to all the photographs that will be taken of you, you’ll want your nude lips to be sheer so they looks more alive, so steer clear of formulas that are too matte, which can appear almost mannequin-like in photos. As pro makeup artist who has been working with brides for over 20 years, I have mastered and perfected this iconic look with all the tricks needed to achieve it. I can guide you through the overwhelming world of beiges, taupes, toffees, and caramels to help you get it just right. Because while it may seem like a simple, effortless bridal look, perfection lies in finding the right shade of nude that matches your lip and skin tone immaculately—one that makes the most of your natural beauty.

Happy 4th of July to My Dearest Brides! The heat can wreak havoc on your bridal makeup. So how can you stop from having a meltdown during your big day?
Red, white and blue makeup is fun to rock on the 4th of July!
Top Tips for Freedom from Makeup Meltdowns
Keep in mind that heavy, oil-based cosmetics do not wear well in hot weather. Light, shear and waterproof makeup will stay in place longer.
So, always begin with a good skincare regimen. Giving yourself a mask once a week will promote healthy regenerating skin cells, smooth surface skin and a glow because you got rid of all the dead cells.
During the summer, your skin produces more moisture naturally. Heavy creams and thick lotions can make you feel like your skin is suffocating. An essential product for the blazing summer heat (especially recommended for those with oily skin) is an oil free mattifying moisturizer.
Always carry a spritzer to hydrate your skin during those summer months this helps your skin stay hydrated, look dewy and yes even set the makeup you have on. Misting your face with rose water also helps to set your makeup and keep it in place.
Wearing a good primer helps to create barrier between your skin and your makeup, thereby helping your makeup to stay put.
Translucent Powder helps control shine and help sets makeup making it a definite summer staple.
Consider using oil-blotting sheets as they help absorb excess moisture without smudging your makeup.
And finally, waterproof makeup, specifically eyeliner and mascara, helps prevent smudging.
Get The Look
Don’t be afraid to kick off the Fourth of July with a beauty look as bold as the fireworks in tonight’s sky. Apply a bold scarlet color on the lips, this color lipstick was designed for the Fourth of July! The hot beauty trend this summer is to skip the black eyeliner. It’s just too harsh. Instead, try a deeper-hued shade of blue. Navy or indigo works great.
Keep in mind that blue eyeliner can make blue eyes pop! A navy blue works really well as a chic and modern alternative smokey eye. The best part is that these hot hues are totally wearable, whether you’re a blonde, redhead, or brunette.

If you think pastels are just a pale, sweet cliché, let this be a lesson. Romantic, soft hues and delicate pastels create a gorgeous bridal makeup look!
How to make the trendy, yet classic, pastel beauty look wearable for your wedding.
Rose, blush, pink – in fact, all shades of spun-sugar and ballerina slippers, dominated the faces of the models walking the summer ’14 runways. And if you are not sure how to create this look, no worries. Staying on trend will be as easy as picking up an eye shadow palette that contains both a taupe and soft pinks to create the look.
- To avoid tired-looking eyes, go lighter on the brown when applying on the bottom lids.
- If you want to play around with the trend, but are looking for a more toned down romantic look, you can use pale pink to achieve a smashingly hip effect.
- Start with a monochromatic palette. For cheeks, take inspiration from fresh blooms and pretty pastel hues of pale, blush toned roses.
What makes pastel pink lipstick not look like something you’d see in a Nicki Minaj music video?
Undertones that are less white and more purple.
- Tone down pastel eye shadow with a heavy black lash and a nude lip.
- Opt for pearl or crystal, shimmery shadows in delicate pastel shades for a lovely sophisticated finish to your bridal eyes.
- Complete your soft romantic makeup look with a stylish tousled ‘do.

Everyone knows that putting on lipstick is one of the factors to achieve a great finish for wedding makeup, right? But finding that perfect shade of lipstick that coordinates with your makeup, dress, and wedding feel/theme/mood can be a bit tricky. And if that’s not is hard enough, keeping it on is even harder!
One of the highlights on your wedding day will be your first kiss as husband and wife!
It is important to consider the variety of lip products out there and how they can help you achieve the longest wearing lip you can get. Applying lipstick correctly will make your lips look gorgeous and luscious, which are a big attraction not only for your groom but for your guests, too! So, aim for luscious lips as part of your wedding makeup.
But first a reality check… There is no real way to make your lipstick last forever or even look pristine 24/7. You will likely have to touch-up throughout the event, and any eating/drinking will do some damage to your pout. These tips and tricks are designed to help minimize touch-ups, damage, and the overall maintenance of your lips during the big day.
Bridal Makeovers Tips For Luscious Bridal Lips
Choose Your Color! As with shadow choices, it has a lot to do with what kind of theme/type of wedding you’re having, and of course, it should coordinate with the rest of your makeup, too. As a pro bridal makeup artist I know the sure fire ways to achieve maximum kissability. I love to see pink-corals, soft pink-beiges, light pinks, nudes and sometimes the classic red. For evening weddings, a good berry or plum can work wonders, too. Bright lipsticks call attention to your teeth, so whiten them before your big day if you want a bright lipstick.
All-Day Color? Just like the rest of your makeup, your lips have to be perfect for your big day. Of course you will have to reapply your chosen lip product a number of times throughout the day but there are some products and tricks to help your pout stay perfect. If you choose a long-wearing or all-day lipstick, remember that most formulations are drying, which is why it is essential that your lips are well moisturized and taken care of prior to the big day. One trick is to apply a heavy lip balm/moisturizer to lips about an hour before you apply the lipstick. Blot it off about 15 minutes before you apply. When applying all-day color, make sure to give the color plenty of time to dry. You have to work fast, though, because once it dries, it’s a pain to remove (aka practice before hand and be precise).
Prep and Prime! To avoid chapped lips, one of the most important things to do is exfoliate right when you get out of the shower. In the weeks leading up to your wedding, you should ensure that you treat that pucker with care, especially if you have dry, chapped, or cracked lips. Start exfoliating with a gritty sugar scrub (you can do a DIY scrub of sugar + extra virgin olive oil) and regularly moisturizing your lips with lip balm that has vitamin E. You want to take a washcloth and rub back and forth over your lips. Another favorite at-home treatments is olive oil and honey or Vitamin E.
Don’t Lick Your Lips! You end up only drying out the skin more. Again, take time to apply hydrating lip balm so you don’t end up giving your lips a quick moisture fix rather when you’re really after permanent nourishment.
Plump Up Your Pout! There is a wide range of lip plumpers on the beauty market these days, and if you feel like you need a little more oomph in your pout, go for it. Remember that a lot of lip plumpers are not going to last all day, so you may find that your pucker deflates as the ceremony goes on. Certain products both nourish and plump the lips. Look for the ingredient Resveratrol which is a super-moisturizing antioxidant which also provides age-defense. Pearlized lip colors add subtle glow that makes lips look plump.
To Line or Not to Line? If you’re not choosing an all-day, long-wearing formula, you should maximize your application by lining your lips. You’ll be kissing a lot on your wedding day. Make lipstick and lip gloss last longer by lining and filling in lips with lip liner before applying color. The liner will also make your lips to retain the color for a longer period even as the lipstick starts to wear off. Lining your lips helps give your lipstick something to further adhere to and it has a less dramatic effect as your lipstick starts to wear off. Line the outer area of your lips for a better contour and to avoid a “bleeding” look if you choose to have the deeper tone of lipstick. Follow that up by coloring your lips with the lip liner prior to applying the lipstick. The lip liner will also help you avoid a messy look as it will act as your guideline on applying lipstick.
Glossy or Matte? Try using a shimmering pink lip gloss in lieu of lipstick for a shiny look. Or test out a few matte lip stains if you prefer color without the sheen. Depending on your application and wedding type/setting/place, high gloss may not be appropriate. While some feel that gloss photographs oddly, I do feel you can still wear high gloss or high sheen without sabotaging your photos. I always recommend that you take test shots with your photographer (especially candid test shots) to see how your makeup will turn out. You can always go for tinted gloss, sheer gloss, or clear gloss to achieve a glossy lip.
